F.A.Q.

?

Where do you get the raw yarn?

We order our raw yarn from a California based wholesaler that partners with a mill in Peru. We chose them for their focus on ethical and sustainable sourcing and production.

You don’t offer superwash wool. Why is that?

Not only does the superwash process interfere with the quality of the final colors, the coating on the fibers breaks down into microplastics. It is important to us that our processes and products are eco-friendly.

What type of chemicals do you use to dye the yarn?

All of our chemicals can be found in most cleaning cabinets and pantries. We use slightly more concentrated versions, but they are all biodegradable. We also neutralize all of our solutions before disposal.

Do you offer custom colors?

At this moment, no. We will one day, but we still need to do more research with our dyes.

Why is the shipping time so long?

Every skein that you order from Aye Dye is dyed specifically for you. Whether it’s one skein or twenty, that color is only for you. We want our yarn to honor the individuality and creativity of the treasure you plan to make with it.

What if I am not happy with the yarn I received?

Please contact us immediately! More details on returns can be found here.

Do you have a rush option?

The short answer is no. Think of us like line cooks, orders are filled in the sequence they are received. The long answer is sort of. If we need to redo your order for any reason, we will get the replacements out as soon as possible.

Why is there color coming out of my project when I wash it?

Some residual dye may wash off in the first couple of washes. We fully saturate our yarn with dye, so it is normal for some of it to not stick to the yarn as well. Any residual dye rinsing out of your project is not harmful or toxic. It may stain slightly, depending on the color of the yarn and what it is coming into contact with. Please contact us if you have any concerns.

How do I wash the yarn?
